Painting with Thread

 Here is my latest addition!
I heart these little stitched girlies SO MUCH!
They each have their own little personality and they
were free motion stitched on my sewing machine.

Something happens to me when I sew that doesn't seem to happen when I paint...
I'm more loose, carefree, I give up the control...

I'm not as attached to the final product... I expect to make mistakes...
I'm sewing...what do you expect right???

Just for the record... I cannot hem a pair of pants to save my life.
Buttons are sewn in this house for decorative purposes only.
I do not consider myself a sewer.  Is sewer even a word?  It sounds funny.

What I LOVE about this medium is the extremely high risk to make mistakes.
I expect it.  It makes it more interesting...
I hope to achieve this more in my painting...

This is what I LOVE about mixed media...
It offers you so much flexibility.
And hopefully this exercise will help me let go
of my need for control and let the painting
evolve more naturally the way it does when I
"paint with thread".

I hope you like them too!

They're in the shop NOW!
Happy Thursday beautiful people! ♥ xox

PS.  Have you seen my petit painted word wishes yet in the shop?
My heart lies within each one. Made with serious TLC. ♥
A secret mantra/quote for 2012...

  1. Thtat is so funny that you are doing these! I have been doing some of my own! Aren't they fun?! I agree, you can't be in control when the machine is flying along. I can't decide what to do with mine though....maybe make them into brooches...or purse panels....any ideas? Yours look amazing, just like your painted girls! xoxo

  8. Danielle, i LOVE THESE! So adorable. I also LOVE the imperfections...(have i neglected to mention that i don't DO perfection?) :-) I can't sew a button with needle & thread, so i admire not only your talent but your skill as a "sewer".

You GO GIRL and Happy new year to you & your lovely little family!! xoxo

I too often love my doodles more than my "over-worked" pieces, maybe I should try sewing as well...
